Guild - 19 October

by Sheila Lowrie - 10:54 on 29 October 2009

The speaker at our meeting on 19th October, 2009 was Mrs Kay Christie, Procurator Fiscal Depute.

Kay gave a most interesting insight into the various duties of the Fiscal’s Office and the system from the Lord Advocate then Solicitor General right down various positions to such as herself here in Stranraer.

Mrs Christie was certainly a very different person for what we had probably all imagined the Procurator Fiscal would look like. She told us that cases heard at such as the High Court involving murders and perhaps high profile drug cases, could really be very entertaining and attract vast numbers from the public – she painted quite an exciting picture of what a court room could be like but the general consensus was that we would all prefer to stay away from one.

Joy Fisher led opening devotions and introduced the speaker. Barbara Agnew delivered the scripture reading and Sheila Lowrie proposed the vote of thanks.

After tea a small amount of business was dealt with including finalising arrangements for the Guild coffee morning scheduled for 31st October.
